Oxfam recently released an interactive map revealing which countries are being hurt the most from record breaking food prices. Oxfam’s GROW campaign is an interactive tool that highlights which countries are most at risk and what you can do to help.

Oxfam is an international confederation of “15 organizations working together in 98 countries and with partners and allies around the world to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.” The GROW campaign is a sublet of the Oxfam confederation, with educational tools to help users comprehend the global food crisis.

Food prices have hit record numbers since 2010 and could reach more than 1 billion people globally. According to Oxfam, “in Yemen, one-third of the population suffers from acute hunger. The cost of wheat flour was 117% higher in May 2011 than the previous year. In Russia, the price of … food rose by 20% to 30% between July 2010 and March 2011. In Guatemala, nearly half of the children under five are chronically undernourished.” This global issue is rising exponentially, with no end in the future.

The map is split into four main sections: red exclamation points with quick information about the area, a stats page comparing malnourishment, a photos page showing pictures from the ground and an Act Now option. The map is hoping to educate the general public, which will then hopefully lead to action.
