UPDATE: Disaster Relief in Haiti

Date:
Fri, 2010-01-22

It has been over a week since a 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook Haiti and destroyed much of its capital, Port-au-Prince. The outpouring of support from people around the world has been incredible, and the Building Impact community has been no exception. During our REAction 2010 kick-off event alone we raised over $700.

Even more incredible, after all of this support people are asking what more they can do. At this point, the organizations working on the ground to provide immediate relief do not have the capacity to increase their efforts more than they are already doing, due to factors such as Haiti’s small and damaged airport, completely damaged sea port, and collapsed infrastructure making travel and operations difficult. Additionally, aftershocks are still disrupting relief efforts.

If you have not already made a monetary donation, please click here to see Building Impact’s recommended organizations.  If you have made a financial donation and are looking to do more, the most useful and impactful thing we can do right now is to wait until operations on the ground (such as Partners in Health) reach a point where their needs are clearer and the initial financial support has been leveraged. Once we have a better idea of items they can use, we will send out that information to anyone who is interested in hosting a donation drive. Click here if you would like to receive information from us at that time.
