For three hours on Saturday morning, 25+ real estate industry professionals banded together to pick up trash along the Charles River in Watertown.
Not only did we pick up trash, but for three hours we
crawled through the woods on our hands and knees picking up pieces of
plastic bags and tiny candy wrappers, slid down the steep embankment to
remove the plastic bottles at the river’s edge, and hauled bicycle tires
and metal pipes out of the woods.
Employees from AM-PM Cleaning, J. Calnan & Associates, Paradigm Properties, ADD Inc, and VHB worked tirelessly to make our area of the river look like nature intended it to.
We also had fun! We chatted about random objects found
(mayonnaise jar, car door, etc) and how we were even more committed to
making sure no one we knew ever littered again. Seeing the 27 bags of
trash and recycling that we removed from our area at the end of the day
was a pretty powerful image, considering we only picked up a tiny
portion of the Charles.
Employees from VHB were especially moved as their office is right in Watertown, just steps away from the area we were cleaning. It was a great experience for them to make an impact so close to where they work. Although we had a few sore backs and dirty clothes by the end of the day, everyone was still smiling, happy with a job well done.
