Employees from Skanska USA, J. Calnan and Associates, and AM-PM Cleaning gathered at the South Boston Boys and Girls Club ready to give the club a fresh look for the start of the summer program. AM-PM Cleaning sponsored this clean up as well as 3 other Boys and Girls Clubs around Greater Boston, in order for the clubs to take advantage of the brief window between their school year and summer programs to give their spaces an overhaul.
After an introduction by Josh Kraft, on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, volunteers got right to work, doing everything from weeding the garden to scraping and painting walls to cleaning the weight room. As Harry, the executive director of the club, explained to the group, the club's regular maintenance staff person was on military leave in Iraq, so the club had been making do with a part-time maintenance person for over a year. The help from the volunteer group that day was therefore invaluable.
At the end of the evening, the South Boston Boys and Girls Club looked like a whole new place--ready and waiting to serve children in need through the summer.
