Princeton Properties, one of our real estate partners, instituted quarterly days of service for 2009 in which a team of 10 staff members leaves the office for the morning and volunteers in their community. This quarter I was lucky enough to go along with them to Lifelinks, Inc., a private non-profit organization that provides services and supports in southern New Hampshire and Northeastern Massachusetts for people with developmental disabilities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
We arrived at Lifelinks Community Center in North Chelmsford on Friday morning and got a full tour. As our tour guide told us, there aren't many places that you can go to work every day and are guaranteed to get a hug. I was struck by how cheerful and full of life the center was, and we were going to help spruce it up.
Our job was to give a fresh coat of paint to their staff break room and long front hallway. The Princeton Properties team rolled up their sleeves and got right to work. They were so industrious that by the end of the morning we had finished both of those tasks and then some!
The Princeton Properties team showed how much of a difference a fresh coat of paint can make, and how much fun you can have while making a positive impact on your community. As for me, it was nice to play community connector for a day and volunteer with our non-profit and real estate partners!
